Featuring Darla McLemore, Founder of Emerald Street Designs
Becoming More of Who You Are
One of my favorite things about photographing women is getting to know the stories behind who they are today. The careers they’ve built. The challenges they’ve overcome. The dreams they’re still pursuing.Something I’ve come to appreciate more as I’ve gotten older is that we don’t stop becoming. We continue to grow, discover new passions, and sometimes find the courage to create something entirely our own. That’s what I love about Darla’s story.

Meet Darla: The Woman Behind Emerald Street Designs
After a career in corporate America, Darla went on to build Emerald Street Designs, a jewelry brand rooted in confidence, self-worth, and the beauty of a woman’s journey. What stood out to me wasn’t simply that she started a business. It was the meaning behind what she’s creating. Emerald Street Designs celebrates women who have lived, learned, overcome challenges, and earned their place in life. Women who recognize their value, appreciate meaningful craftsmanship, and aren’t afraid to invest in themselves.
I love that philosophy because it’s something I see in so many of the women who come into my studio.
They’re business owners, executives, mothers, and women pursuing something new. They’ve spent years building their lives and careers, and now they want images that reflect who they’ve become.
Creating Personal Branding Images With Purpose
When Darla came in for her branding photoshoot, our goal was to create more than a collection of beautiful headshots.
As the founder of a jewelry business, she needed images that would introduce her to her audience while also showcasing the products she’s passionate about. We planned several looks to give her variety for her website, social media, marketing materials, and future speaking opportunities. Some portraits were polished and professional. Others were softer and more approachable. And for the jewelry-focused images, we created something more dramatic and editorial.
Each look served a different purpose, but together they needed to feel like one cohesive brand.

Bringing the Emerald Street Brand to Life
One of the most meaningful details we incorporated into Darla’s session was the dragonfly, a symbol that’s part of Emerald Street’s brand identity. Rather than simply photographing her wearing the necklace, I wanted to create an image where the jewelry became part of the visual story.
We used warm golden lighting, carefully selected wardrobe, and intentional posing to draw attention to the jewelry while keeping Darla at the center of the photograph. Even the placement of her hands was considered to highlight the pieces without making the image feel like a traditional product advertisement. The result was a series of portraits that could work both as personal branding images and as jewelry campaign photography.

This is one of the things I enjoy most about creative branding photography. It’s an opportunity to take something meaningful to a business and translate it into imagery through lighting, styling, composition, and expression.
The goal isn’t simply to make someone look beautiful. It’s to create photographs that feel recognizable, intentional, and connected to the brand they’re building.
Your Brand Should Reflect the Woman You’ve Become
One thing I’ve learned from photographing women over the years is that our identities continue to evolve. Sometimes our businesses grow faster than our images do. We may still be using headshots from several years ago, even though our confidence, leadership, and vision have changed. Or perhaps we’re stepping into a new role, launching a business, or finally pursuing something we’ve dreamed about for years.
That’s why I believe personal branding photography should be about more than how you look. It should reflect how you want to show up in the world today.

More Than a Photoshoot
What I hope women take away from their experience with me isn’t simply a collection of photographs. It’s the opportunity to recognize how far they’ve come and celebrate the person they’ve worked so hard to become. You don’t need to wait for another milestone, another achievement, or the perfect moment.
The woman you are today is already worth celebrating. And sometimes, seeing yourself through a different lens is a beautiful reminder of that.
